Explore the Weskus Adventures!

What is adventure travel? Is it limited to long-distance trekking through gorges and mountain ranges, kayaking down rivers, and camping in rugged ridges along the way? Adventure means something different to everyone. It can be incredible experiences, some of them might be considered extreme or foolish, while others are more exciting than daring. In Namaqua West Coast you will find adventure for days. Adventures like mountain biking, mountain climbing, and hiking. You will find a 30km long mountain bike route that starts at Doring Bay and meanders to Papendorp and back again. An adventure road trip along the back roads of the Namaqua West Coast, surfing, spearfishing, mountain biking, and trail running and hiking, plus enjoying the West Coast Wine Route around Doring Bay, Strandfontein, Vredendal, Vanrhynsdorp & Klawer. 

It spans a wide diversity of surfaces and diverse flora. At certain places, you will be as close as 50 m from the ocean where the calm sound of the sea is. At the start, you will experience unbelievable single-track paths up to Papendorp and then you will take on an open gravel road back to Doring Bay.

Who will dare to go wild camping on Namaqua West Coast? Where the Hardeveld meets the ocean is a sprawling, wild and uninhabited coastline. The raw beauty of the sceneries attracts a particular kind of traveler who enjoys camping in the jagged and the privacy of going off-road. For watersports, the Olifants River offers swimming and canoeing opportunities while the mouth is especially popular with kayakers. 

In Cederberg, you will find an explosion of adventure travel, that spans mountain biking, cycling, hiking, surfing, bouldering, and many more.

Come and explore the sensation of adventure in the Cederberg Wilderness Area, attainment of backpacking and climbing in a massive unspoiled wilderness well known for its exceptional features like the Wolfberg Cracks, the Wolfberg Arch, and the Maltese Cross. Enjoy the climbing of peaks like the Tafelberg, and the Sneeuberg with their cliffs, highpoints, gorges, and valleys. When hiking along the high trails, excitement will fill you. Hundreds of rocky overhangs and caves with Khoi-San rock art make the Cederberg a haven for Bouldering enthusiasts. Bouldering is rock climbing without the safety equipment so the climbing is not as risky and therefore suitable for anyone who is reasonably fit and keen to explore this rugged mountain the Cederberg is considered one of the best sites in the world for bouldering.

Cederberg Hiking Trips near Clanwilliam. The Cederberg, a World Heritage Site, with spectacular mountain scenery. This region is a gem trove of San rock art and botanical variety. The Cederberg is famous for its rock climbing routes. A lengthy, reeling kelpy pointbreak, Elands Bay is a perfect left that allows for high-performance surfing, speed runs, and lip turns, as well as the ideal canvas for old-school carving. It likes the normal southwest swell, and also feels a swell out of the north, as does most of the Weskus. 

The Bergrivier Region was named the Adventure Capital, with its culinary adventures, cultural adventures, outdoor adventures, and water adventures. Explore Mountain biking with a twist on Piket-Bo-Berg, the 110-plus kilometer web of trails thread through mossy forests, striking rock formations, and pristine fynbos. The riding is technically challenging, featuring berms, bridges, rocky climbs, and steep descents. But the views – from the West Coast Peninsula to Cederberg Mountain Rage, Rooi Karoo, and even the iconic Table Mountain – are worth the grind.

The trails are private and open to the public for only one weekend of the year. Water adventures include; swimming, canoeing, surfing, fishing, skiing, stand-up paddling, kitesurfing, sunset boat cruises, or sailing – being by the water means you have access to countless entertaining and unforgettable holiday events that will keep everyone tickled. Who will have it in them to go paragliding in the Bergrivier Region? Camping is a real joy, you will find places with mountain ranges, waterfalls, nature reverses and so much more.

West Coast Peninsula, only 100km from Cape Town lies the charming town of Langebaan, built on the banks of a turquoise lagoon. This area is one of the natural wonders of South Africa. This region known for summer holidays and fun on the beach has a number of adventure activities to offer. Kitesurfing is on top of the adventure accomplishments. So if you are interested in so amazing spots for water adventure then you will find kitesurfing/kiteboarding paradise on the West Coast Peninsula.  Kayaking trips in the beautiful West Coast Peninsula, are suitable for paddlers of all skill levels and are especially fun for families with kids. 

The jewel-like region also offers adventurers something different. Stunning bird life, magnificent scenery, excellent local seafood, and exciting fishing are just some of the elements that make the Weskus so special. Yet the overriding allure of the Weskus is its majestic windswept landscapes and a coastline that is ever-changing, moody, and magical. 

This is incredibly beautiful, called the Swartland, yet often overlooked, and has a wide fertile plain that, after the rains in winter,  the wide, fertile plains are filled with golden wheat fields that have contributed to its status as the bread basket of the Cape. There are as many landscapes as there are seasons and the blazing wheat is interspersed with wine, fruit, and olive plantations that give rise to a patchwork quilt of colour.

Here in this incredible region, you will find adventure. Enjoy water-skiing and sunset boat trips at Misverstand Dam. Hiking, mountain biking, clay pigeon shooting, or horse riding are all available in the area as well as paragliding. You can walk any of their beach hiking trails – the 2km route from Schaapeiland or the 16-mile route along the sea if you have more time or if you prefer horse riding on the beach? that is one of Swartland’s specialties. 

One can also enjoy early morning walks in the vineyards, canoeing on the Berg River, a cycling bike ride, or a walk along with one of the ragged hiking trails.
